Our Waters

Formally the estate of the Cowper family, Panshanger Park is now owned by Tarmac which has extracted sand and gravel from the site since 1982. However much of the old working has been restored to rolling parkland and in so doing, created a set of first class angling facilities.

THE LAKES

Riverside Lake is about 6 acres and is stocked with both rainbow and brown trout. Riverside Lake can be fished around its entire bank.

Kings Lake which is about 5 acres is stocked exclusively with brown trout is fished from its southern bank with no fishing permitted along the bank adjacent to the road. Two fishing platforms have been installed on Kings Lake.

Osprey Lake is about 15 acres and is stocked mainly with rainbow trout.  Within the environs of the nature reserve, Osprey Lake is fished from around about half of the bank to the west of the island with a fishing platform installed in the south western corner.

RIVER MIMRAM

Fishing on the River Mimram extends for about half a mile from its point of exit at the eastern end of the Park to the weir upstream of the bridge between Riverside Lake and Kings Lake.

There are two close seasons on the River Mimram; brown trout from October 1st to March 31st and grayling from March 15th to June 15th.

CATCH LIMITS

The numbers of trout that anglers may catch is set out in the rule book as are the numbers of rainbow trout that may be taken for the table.  All brown trout are to be returned alive to all lakes as are all and brown trout and grayling caught on the River Mimram.

Anglers must take the utmost care when handling all fish to be returned alive and to give each sufficient time in the shallows to recover prior to final release.

FACILITIES

Lodges located in secluded areas close to Osprey Lake and Riverside Lake provide shelter from the worst of the elements.

WILDLIFE

With its abundant wildlife, Panshanger Park is an invaluable sanctuary for many types of flora and fauna and all who visit the Park are expected to behave in a manner that has negligible effect on the environment. Anglers must be especially respectful and vigilant when fishing Osprey Lake which is partially surrounded by a nature reserve.
